The objective of competition supervision
The objective of competition supervision is to ensure fair competition and safeguard the functioning of market. The aim of competition rules is to eliminate competitive restrictions. The Supervisory Department of the Competition Division conducts proceedings which are addressed to agreements that could restrict competition and proceedings related to the activities of entrepreneurs in dominant market position. Because of the specific nature of the Estonian legal regime, proceedings involving these cases are reviewed in a number of different ways, depending on the circumstances and types of violation, from administrative proceedings to extensive criminal cases.
In addition, the Authority analyses the competitive situation in different economic sectors and if necessary makes proposals to respective ministries to improve the competitive situation.
